Tigers


  1. Bengal tiger
    India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, China,
    Myanmar: the most common subspecies;
    about 2,500 left in the wild.

  2. Indochinese tigerLaos, Myanmar,
    Thailand and Vietnam: about
    350 left in the wild.

  3. Malayan tiger
    Southern Malay peninsula: about 250
    to 340 left in the wild.
    4. Siberian tiger
    Russian far east, north-east China:
    the largest subspecies; about
    540 left in the wild.
    5. Sumatran tiger
    Sumatra, Indonesia. The smallest
    subspecies; 400 to 500 left in the wild.
    6. South China tigerSouth-east China.
    None seen for 25 years in the wild: about
    60 in captivity.


This solitary creature will
have a territory of up to
100km^2 , which is why
preserving tigers’ natural
habitat is so important if
they are to survive

TRACKING
THE TIGERS
The tiger (Panthera
tigris) has six surviving
subspecies. Four are
extinct: the Bali, Javan
and Caspian tiger all died
out last century, while the
Trinil tiger disappeared in
