JON NICHOLSON

Jon Nicholson has been a
photojournalist for 30 years,
documenting people and
how they interact with their
natural environment. He
recently discovered a new
favourite destination for a
shoot: Ladakh in the Indian
Himalayas. Turn to page 78 to
see his landscape and people
shots. ‘I think the photo with
the young girl walking home
up the valley (taken at around
4,400m above sea level) really
puts the vast countryside and
beauty of the barren hills into
perspective,’ he says.

STEPHANIE CROSS

Stephanie Cross lives in
London but, being from
Norfolk, is a country girl at
heart and loves to spend time
outdoors – even in winter.
Read her piece on the BBC’s
Wi nterwatc h series on page
38, where she tells us about
animals you can see in the
cold season, including grey
seals from her hometown.
On page 57 she also profiles
BBC wildlife filmmakers
Alice Owens and Jo Shinner.

CHARLOTTE
RICHARDSON-
ANDREWS

Charlotte Richardson-
Andrews is a freelance arts
journalist from Kingston-
upon-Thames. Her favourite
place to hang out is Richmond
Park, where she enjoys
listening to the birds sing.
That is one of the things that
inspired her feature about
animals and their response
to music in this issue – turn to
page 114 to read it.

MARK EVELEIGH

Mark Eveleigh grew up in
West Africa and returns to
what he calls ‘the world’s
most exciting continent’
to chase conservation and
travel stories. On page 94 he
takes us to Swaziland where
we meet conservationists
and rangers fighting to
protect rhinos. He comes face
to face with these amazing
creatures and finds out about
the country’s resurrecton as
a Big Five safari destination.
