Marco Merletti and Valeria Mercuri. This won Third Place in 2016. The towers are sustainably powered by
Iceland’s abundant natural volcanic energy, while also being cooled above by the naturally chilly
environment. (Opposite) Freshwater Skyscrapers, a Design Crew for Architecture entry in 2010. The
immense modular greenhouse domes contain sealed mangrove ecosystems. When these are connected
to ‘trickle down’, they could change slightly salty water into freshwater at 15,000 gallons a day.
