Company: LaserSoft Imaging
Price: $99
Rating:
Hot: Very fast on small, easily recognized
scratches; doesn’t affect sharpness
Not: Only good for preparing fixes on images
with lots of detail
The SRDx (Smart Removal of Defects) plug-in for Photoshop CC
running on Mac OS 10.10 or higher is designed to fix damaged
photos. SRDx works with all B&W, Kodachrome, and color images
and is optimized for scratches and dust. It’s claimed to be better
than Photoshop’s Dust & Scratches filter, and it should save time,
but will it?
Scanned photos, slides, and negatives are rarely free of scratches
and dust particles. In Photoshop CC you can repair these by using
the filter or one of its healing brushes. LaserSoft Imaging claims
speed advantages over Photoshop’s built-in tools, as well as better
results because of the way SRDx works.
The SRDx plug-in has only a few controls, including sliders
to set Detection Intensity and Tile Size (the surrounding area).
There’s also the ability to create masks so you can rule out areas
from detection.
The plug-in is optimized to fix damage without affecting sharp-
ness. Blemishes are removed by taking the surrounding image
