information into account. From my tests, it seems the plug-in
works by finding high-contrast edges, and that works well on
images with subjects without detail and few blemishes; but less
well on others. To fix all defects that run across low-contrast
areas scarring different subjects, you need to crank up the
Detection Intensity a lot. That’s okay, but SRDx then starts to
find scratches where there are none, especially with images that
have small detail.
And here’s the catch: creating masks to ensure fixes are
applied in only the right spots takes up time, although probably
not as much as when you use Photoshop’s Healing Brush from
the start. I tried it on some badly damaged images and was
happy to have SRDx as a preparatory tool, but it can’t beat Photo-
shop’s healing brushes in terms of accuracy, or a scanner with an
IR channel. n
