DESIGNER

Final version

Mario Garza is an Oregon-based designer with 15 years of experience under his belt. His earliest freelancing efforts focused mainly on clients in the music industry, for whom
he created album covers, show posters, and shirt designs for various punk and metal bands. This led to a strong interest in screen-printing, which resulted in running a boutique
print and design shop in Central California for several years.
The shop closed its doors after Mario moved to the Portland area to study film and seek new freelancing opportunities. The move paid off, as he’d ultimately find himself
collaborating on a number of projects with Northwest staples such as Nike, Intel, and Adidas.
Mario draws inspiration in everything ranging from the films of Stanley Kubrick to tarot cards. In his free time he likes to research alternative history and the hidden mean-
ing behind esoteric and everyday symbols. You can see his portfolio at http://www.mothandmoon.org. n

about the designer

The new logo has already made its appearance on, for
example, Eaton’s LinkedIn profile, and the new website
should be up by the time you read this. Both client and
designer are pleased with the way it came out—according
to Garza, Eaton said it was “epic.”
“I think it came out really well,” says Garza. “I think
it’ll get the job done, and I think it’s a huge improvement
from where they were before.” He also considers it a
good match for Eaton and the business, because its clean,
minimalist approach fits Eaton’s own preferences.
According to Eaton, feedback from people who’ve
seen the logo has been very positive, with praise for its
power, elegance, and clarity. He also appreciates that “it’s
straightforward and easy to remember.”
The project itself has been helpful, given the nature of
Append Media as a brand identity company. “In a way,
this project has been a way to help us refine our own
processes,” he says.

“‘I think it came out

really well,’ says Garza. ‘I think

it’s a huge improvement from
