TRULY CLASSIC 128 VIJONARA

This is the second model in the Hoek
Truly Classic 128 series, launched
from Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth
in April. Vijonara was designed and
built for family cruising undertaken by
experienced owners.
“Based on a proven hull
specification, the owners had a distinct
vision for her customisation to suit their
lifestyle, and she has been optimised
extensively for performance,” says
André Hoek. “A new addition to the
128 design is a bow sprit that houses
the downwind sails such as asymmetric
spinnaker or a Code sail, as well as
paying homage to true vintage sailing
yachts.”
Vijonara also differs on deck from
the first TC128 Atalante by having a
helm station positioned forward of the
aft deckhouse. “This creates a social
atmosphere close to the centre cockpit,
enabling the helmsman and guests
to remain in close contact,” Hoek
says. “In doing so the aft cockpit has
become the owner’s cockpit, not

only creating privacy, but also providing
an extension of the aft owner’s cabin
and deckhouse.”
The owner’s suite below decks
includes an oculus with underwater
lighting for a view below the water
day or night. The inclusion of a small
gym, which can convert to an extra
guest cabin, also shows some of the
customisation possible within the
pre-designed parameters of the Truly
Classic range.
Vijonara’s owners commissioned
the French luxury firm Hermès to
create some bespoke interior leather
fittings, including the desk area, sofas,
and the oculus mounted into a leather-
clad table.
“Vijonara will be a fitting
complement to the yard’s 30th
anniversary celebrations at this year’s
Monaco Yacht Show in September,”
says Pendennis’s managing director
Mike Carr.
Pendennis had its busiest winter
season in 2017/18, including the refit of
11 yachts alongside the Vijonara build.
The refit programme included SY G2
(ex Cinderella IV), which underwent
structural restyling by her original naval
architect Bill Tripp, complemented by
a contemporary interior redesign by
Nauta Yachts.

have been drawn for all models. “We
have had good feedback on both bows,”
says Design Unlimited’s founder Mark
Tucker. “Some like the reverse bow as
it is very much in fashion at the
moment, and the more conservative
feel that this fashion will come to an
end at some point so lean towards the
vertical bow.”
The mainsheet and self-tacking jib
are led to captive winches to help keep
things easy to manage and clutter-free.
The runner winches aft can double as
mooring winches and the four cockpit
winches handle the running rigging and
gennaker sheets.
A distinctive design feature is the
optional Infiniti logo patterned into the
coachroof top, offering natural light into
the interior with centralised seating in
the saloon, as shown on the 105.
“We have placed the seating in the
middle under the amazing glass Infiniti
roof,” Tucker explains. “We felt that
this position removes the traditional
corridor through the saloon and brings
people out from sitting under the side
deck! Furniture is then suspended from
the structure outboard with access
forward behind the TV.”
There should be news soon of the
partnering shipyard for the first model
to be built.
