(nextflipdebug2) #1
This low-profile, stealth machine is the
latest Wally, a 93 that launched from
Performance Boats in Italy in May for
an existing Wally owner. The Judel
Vrolijk design fits neatly into the Wally
Class between the competitive 80s
and the Centos, and could well prove a
match for the 100ft (30m) class.
Rolf Vrolijk says the new design is
streamlined for the competitive Wally
circuit. “Very powerful upwind with
the same draught as the Wallycento,
the new Nahita will be able to keep her
lane after the start on the first upwind
leg. The performance is optimised for
the light to medium conditions: she
will have the ability to start surfing in
even lower true wind speed than the
Wallycentos, and is easily capable to
exceed the true wind speed,” he says.
The profile is not unlike the latest
Centos. The combination of ultra-clean
deck combined with large living areas
shows this is a design of true Wally

cruiser-racer pedigree. A slight step to
the deck inboard each side is a clever
feature that serves to camouflage the
shallow guest cockpit from the side.
Strict attention to weight and a
build using high modulus unidirectional
carbon and a CNC female carbon
mould has resulted in race-boat like
displacement. The 5.7m deep rudder
weighs only 150kg, including the stock.
“The Wally 93 is very light and
powerful with a featherweight 35.5 tons

  • in fact a displacement in the region of
the Wally 80 Nahita she replaces,” says
Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder. He adds
    that the sail area/displacement ratio
of the new Nahita is as powerful as the
    Wallycentos.
The saloon area is forward of the
mast, while the crew cabin and the
galley are amidships to help centralise
    weight and minimise pitching. This
also offers more privacy to the owner’s
area forward of the saloon. The styling

  • modern and minimalist – is a little
reminiscent of the latest Cento Ta n g o.
The old Nahita, an 80ft (24m) Farr
design from 2009, has been raced well
over the past few seasons. This new
    93ft (28.30m) model has a deep-lift
keel to increase righting moment when
reaching, and lift when sailing upwind.
The new Nahita will make her racing
debut at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in
    September at Porto Cervo, Italy.
