SUPERSAIL WORLD 45 APRIL-JUNE 2018

The St Barths Bucket in March was the
first regatta that the 2016 Vitters-built
Missy competed in, and her debut here
in Palma is much anticipated. This
striking, modern 33m fast cruiser is
notable for her low-profile, tinted-glass
canopy. Malcolm McKeon designed
the cockpit to suit the owner and his
young family, so it uses the table and
benches to form a protected U-shape
cocoon in the centre, while allowing an
easy safe passage through from either
side. The result is a contained den for
relaxing or enjoying the sailing that
always remains in contact with those
on the helm.

McKeon achieved this through
careful thought and mock-ups. “You
learn so much from a mock-up; I
always try to persuade owners to do
one,” he says.
The use of glass across the full
width of the aft canopy contributes to
an incredible amount of light beneath
and gives guests great views from
within. A glass door slides open at the
push of a button to access the raised
saloon and an interior that is the work
of Design Unlimited.
“I always think that when you’re
down here you want to feel included
with what’s happening on deck,”
says McKeon.
The forward-facing windows
are the largest size that could be
manufactured in 3D curved glass and
there are heat-reflective pigments in
the coachroof paint and laminate.
