Winds of change
Six months on and Trade -a-Boats’ owners are realising the
changes promised early on. Having taken on Trade-a-Boat
in a challenging state back at issue #498, the owners, the
staf and contributors have been working tirelessly to bring
the title back to where it belongs. The start was the increase
in paper quality, then the addition of more pages and the
most recent change, the inclusion of up to 100 pages of
classifieds. Now there is more to come with another upgrade
in paper quality and a further refocusing of content. You will
hopefully see some familiar faces from years gone by back
as well as more of what you want to read. Should you have

found on page 18 but I could not find the space to
congratulate the team on the job well done. We went to the
show with expectations it would be better than last year on
the back of Riviera’s return and the success of last year but
were blown away by the clear upsizing of the trailer boat
areas and the number of quality boats on the docks. An
honest person would say that as recently as three years ago
the docks felt like they were dominated by used boats, some
rather old too, but this year the show picked it up extremely
well and by all accounts, the exhibitors feel it was a success.
Well done Johan and the team at SCIBS, we look forward to

This month been I was struck by the sad news of the sudden
passing of David Lockwood. David held the reigns at Trade -a-
Boat long before my time but his legacy still lives on. I come
across his work almost daily and would see him regularly at
various press junkets. When David moved on from Trade -a-
Boat the seas stayed with him to become the editorial face of
Boatsales. I met David on a junket when he enthusiastically
asked about what my plans were for the magazine and
about the staf and contributors still involved. To his credit
and a clear indication of his passion and pride in his time
here, we would still ask as recently as early this year, five
years on. Rest easy David, you will not be forgotten by us and
your name lives on with your excellent work.
