The newest Japanese destroyer, Asahi (DD119), arriving
at Sasebo naval base in late April. She was commissioned
on 7 March in Nagasaki and inducted into the service’s
Escort Flotilla 2, based in Sasebo, after being handed
over by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), having been
built in its Tategami facility in Nagasaki. Asahi was
launched in October 2016 and began sea trials in mid-

The Singapore-flagged livestock carrier Ocean Swagman (2009/12,892gt)
anchored off Algeciras for bunkers on 6 April. Built at Batam, Indonesia for
Wellard Ships of Singapore, she was on a voyage from Cartagena, Spain to
