42 Pontoon^ & Deck Boat March^2018 http://www.pdbmagazine.com
Brandon and Michael Vandygriff are brothers from
Breckenridge, Texas, and make up two members of a three-
man cat fishing team.
“We’re extremely good fisherman,” Michael laughs. “I’m
not trying to brag, but we’ve
been doing this our whole
lives.”
Team Brotherhood are
the anchor members of a
larger cat fishing club on
Hubbard Creek Reservoir,
with nearly 100 members
and growing every year.
With the growing interest
in chasing trophy blue cats,
Team Brotherhood shifted
gears from bass fishing to
cat fishing. And for that,
they needed a bigger boat.
“We initially were going
to go in on this purchase
with some partners so we
could all guide out of it,” Michael says. “Then my brother
kind of went rogue on me. He said, we will be able to
accomplish both family time and guide time with this boat.
And he’s right! He’s proven that a pontoon boat is just as good
as any traditional fishing platform.”
At the helm of the Lowe SF 214, Brandon and Michael
cruise around Hubbard Creek Reservoir’s 15,000 acres of
catfish heaven. While there are some aspects of the package
the brothers wish were more geared toward competitive
fishing, they appreciate a boat that can go head-to-head with
competitors but also pays attention to creature comforts the
family needs.
“It’s a good, sound boat. A lot of time when other people
can’t be fishing, we are. The livewell probably needs to be
a bit bigger for what we’re doing,” admits Michael, “but
everything else about that boat I would give five stars!”

“We just love everything about the boat,
and we’re kind of picky people. The deck
is spacious and the front lip designed to
equip the boat with a trolling motor was
very appealing. A lot of pontoon boats
don’t have that yet!”
