CHECKLIST FOR SAFER SAILING

Marine mobile app Nebo continues to update
its feature to make it easy to enjoy safe and
carefree sailing. Nebo’s ‘Pre-start checklist’
feature enables users to create a customise
start-up list for their particular boat.
Users can select and save their own pre-
start instructions or choose from a range of
suggestions including: shore power off, check
fuel levels or check-in with Coast Guard; plus
much more. Skippers can also add their own
reminders to the list and establish unique
checklists for more than one vessel.
The feature assists yacht crew to always
remember critical items that must be
addressed before departing a marina or
anchorage. The checklist can be automatically
saved in Nebo’s log.
Since its launch last year, Nebo has grown to
become a popular app in the marine industry,
with more than 14,000 skippers across 190
countries now using it to automatically log
their voyages. Primarily designed as a tool
to automate the task of logging sea voyages
using advanced geofencing technology, Nebo
claims it sets itself apart from other apps by
emailing detailed log reports to skippers each

day that are invaluable for record keeping,
insurance claims, communication and more.
Nebo has a host of features including its Track
Me function that allows friends and family or
commercial companies to keep tabs on a user’s
location at sea. It also allows users’ voyage
reports and images to be instantly shared with
individuals, groups or the public on most social
media platforms.

KRAKEN GOOD RIDE
Correspondents from the sailing
industry and prospective clients
were invited to Cape Town for a test
sail of Kraken Yacht’s flagship 66
footer White Dragon.
While Cape Town’s coastline
offered a stunning backdrop, the
changeable weather provided
perfect testing conditions for a
yacht designed to sail around the
world. Winds up to 60 knots were
recorded during the event with White
Dragon taking it in her stride, proving
her design brief.
Kraken Yachts chairman, Dick
Beaumont, sailed White Dragon into
Cape Town last December after a
12,000 nautical mile shakedown
sail from Hong Kong. For the visiting
yacht reviewers Beaumont wanted
to put the yacht through a proper
test, “we felt a short afternoon
test sail around the bay was not
conducive to the type of sailing
our yachts are built for.

“We decided to host multi-day test
sails with nights at anchor, meals
prepared onboard and exploring
new locations as this was a genuine
demonstration as to a Kraken’s purpose.”
Roger Goldsmith, Kraken Yachts
managing director commented,
“we welcome shipyard visits and
test sails of Kraken yachts so we
can highlight the many features
developed from years and miles
of bluewater sailing experience.
“We are proud to lead the industry
with our fully encapsulated and
integral Zero Keel, designed to
protect against floating debris and
grounding and cannot be detached
from the hull.”
White Dragon is currently sailing up
the Skeleton Coast of Namibia before
sailing on to St. Helena, Ascension,
Cape Verde, the Azores then arriving
in Spain, where she will be available
to test sail around the Mediterranean.
