SFC boat Pandamonium. That cobia
was also let go at Enderby Island and
was 107cm and an estimated 11kg
upon release. When recaptured 111
days later, Luke measured the fish
at 113cm and 12kg and released it
close to its original release location.
Only 1218 cobia have been tagged
under the program since 1973, and
this fish is the 32nd cobia to be
recaptured under the program.

BLUEWATER’S
SWORDFISH TAG AWARD
As announced last winter, BlueWater
magazine has donated a bronze
trophy and NSW DPI has created a
special Swordfish Tag and Release
Certificate to encourage more
tagging of broadbill swordfish.
The certificate will be issued for
each swordfish tagged, and the first
50 tagged swords reported will also
receive a DPI Tagging Program hat.
BlueWater’s magnificent bronze Bodo
Muche swordfish sculpture will be
awarded to the Australian boat tagging
and releasing the most swordfish between
1 July 2017 and 30 June 2018. The
winner will be determined from tag cards
returned to NSW DPI, however, to qualify
for this trophy you must also submit a
clear photo of each release to BlueWater
(preferably also showing the angler),
together with details of the catch, which
will be published in the magazine. Please
email your tagged swordfish photos and
details to: [email protected]
with the subject line ‘Swordfish Tagging
Award’.
The NSW DPI Game Fish Tagging
Program issues tags free of charge and
works in close association with the NSW
Game Fishing Association, the Game
Fishing Association of Australia and ANSA.
The program is run using funds from the
NSW Recreational Fishing Trust. More than
455,000 fish have been tagged under the
program so far. If you would like to get
involved, please phone (02) 4424 7423 or
email [email protected]
