Ray lives in Perth but
regularly drives 1200km
north to Exmouth
following his passion for
marlin and sailfish. Last
year he took his son and
his mate, catching five
small blacks and a sailfish
in one session. Ray says the look on their faces was
priceless. At age 63, Ray has recently been diagnosed
with Parkinson’s Disease, but hopes to visit Cairns and
tick a giant black off his bucket list while he can still
crank a reel.

Louise grew up in Fiji
but moved to Sydney
at the age of eight. Her
passion for gamefishing
began when she
married Phil and then
purchased their 12.5m
custom alloy gameboat
Satisfaction, which now lives at their home base in
Lae, PNG. Louise and her family have won a long list
of trophies and awards in the years since, but she is
most proud of their performance at the Offshore World
Championship in Costa Rica.

THIS ISSUE

Young Oska has been
addicted to fishing for as
long as he can remember.
As a crew-member aboard
Mr Pig, he fishes regularly
along the Sydney coastline
and particularly loves the
challenge of tiger sharks.
His last New Year’s goal was to catch one himself, and
within a couple of weeks he’d caught two! During a
tournament in 2016 he tagged three mako sharks and
weighed another for an Australian junior record.

SOUNDING OUT THE FINAL FRONTIER
Whether you’re chasing swordfish on the bottom, or
simply the bottom structures that influence trolling out
wide, you’re going to need an echo sounder with the
capability to show clear details of the bottom in depths of
up to 800 metres. BlueWater interviewed the experts at
the leading electronics companies to bring you this guide
to selecting and using the best deep-water sounders.

A REVOLUTION IN GAMEFISHING
BOAT DESIGN – and why, until now,
you’ve been led astray
Sportfishing boat designer Wayne Osborne is appalled
that the industry hasn’t advanced with the design and
materials that he believes can greatly improve your
fishing functionality while also slashing running costs.
He’s now on a mission to revolutionise the boat market.
