BlueWater Boats & Sportsfishing – April 01, 2018

Renowned gamefish sculptor Bodo Muche passed away in late
2017, but his artworks live on through the Bodo Muche Studio run
by his partner in life and business, Robyn.
A wide range of gamefish sculptures are available from Bodo’s
moulds in either cast bronze or stainless-steel, including the recent
‘Blue of Blue’ (pictured), featuring a 45cm-high leaping blue marlin
in bronze with an inlaid boulder opal set on a polished walnut
plinth.
Bodo’s magnificent sculptures are treasured around the world as
artworks bringing style and lifestyle into your home décor. They
are also very popular with clubs and tournaments as trophies and
awards for special occasions. In fact, the Studio has created a
range of modestly-priced bronzes especially suited for gamefishing
tournaments. These are available in species ranging from marlin
and sailfish to swordfish, sharks, yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna,
wahoo and more.
The family business continues to be run by Robyn together
with her two daughters, Carley and Tania, in collaboration with
the Studio’s long-established team of foundry artisans. They
honour and perpetuate Bodo’s legacy through production and
customisation of the many editions of his sculptures, and by
creating new innovations within Bodo Muche Studio.

Getting your fish to the boat might seem like
the main game, but if you don’t have the
right gaff it can all go horribly wrong in the
final moments. Whether it’s a dolphinfish for
the table or a trophy-winning tuna, getting it
aboard can rely on the quality of your gaff.
The Australian company Hook’em takes
great pride in creating products of exceptional
quality. Their new Diamond series of fixed
gaffs is no exception. The hooks are cast in
hi-tensile stainless-steel, then case-hardened
for greater strength. Each one is then hand-
polished to a mirror-finish for greater resistance to
saltwater corrosion.
These gaffs feature a needle-sharp chisel-tip point with facets
that can easily be re-sharpened should they ever need it. The shape
penetrates easily and is backed-up with reinforcing in the bend and shank
to eliminate straightening.
Their slightly-flexible fibreglass poles are lightweight and won’t mark your boat. Fitted with
textured rope handles, they are comfortable to use and help prevent thrashing fish from
twisting or tearing the handle from your grasp. The 3-inch gape hook size is available with
handles in lengths of 120 or 150cm, whereas the heavy-duty 4-inch hook is available with
handle lengths of 120, 150 or 180cm. A unique innovation of the Hook’em range is their
three handle grips, with the additional top rope binding positioned for grasping as you haul
a heavy prize over the gunnel – making the process easier and more secure.
