NEW yachts

X-Yachts is significantly bolstering its
range of X models, with the X4^9 launched
at Düsseldorf and the X4^6 announced, to
add to the existing X4^3 and X6^5.
The X4^9 offers more than just extra
volume compared with the highly
popular X4^3 (75 sold). On deck the most
obvious is a restyling of the cover for the
sprayhood. It’s now very neatly recessed
into the deck moulding, which gives a
run of teak decking on a single level for
almost the full length of the coachroof

Najad 395AC

This Farr design with Ken Freivokh
interiors is the first all-new boat to emerge
from Najad since the Swedish boatbuilder
changed hands five years ago. “We’ve tried
to keep the heritage and DNA of Najad
intact, while updating the range,” says
CEO Jörgen Ottosson.
The boat features the trademark Najad
solid windscreen, a single wheel and
a single rudder. “We believe this is the
best option for a serious cruising yacht,”
adds Ottosson. “You have the advantage
of the prop wash over the rudder when
manoeuvring and the blade is protected
from impact damage by the keel.” The hull
is wider, however, with the maximum beam
carried further aft than in previous Najad
models, while overhangs are shorter.
As soon as you step on board it’s clear
this is a different proposition to most new
yachts of this size. The design and quality

include a dinghy garage with aft door that
hinges down to form a bathing platform,
and the option for a recessed mainsheet
traveller on an electric ram.
Below decks there’s a great layout,

with an open spacious feel, but no
wide-open spaces that are problematic
to negotiate at sea. A big change for X
is the switch back to using real wood
veneers. Deep fiddles at the galley,
properly screwed down sole boards and
a large forward-facing navigation station
all indicate this is a boat intended for
serious sailing. Yet it’s not a boat that’s
wrapped up in homages to the past –
styling is absolutely contemporary, with
Nordic oak, bleached oak or teak.
The X4^6 announced at the show is
expected to launch mid summer.

of the boat are all driven with longevity
of ownership as a priority. The attention
to detail is striking : the very substantial
interior woodwork gets 11 coats of
lacquer, for instance, while the teak deck
is 14mm thick. With more than 700 items
on the options list there is plenty of scope
for customisation.
