RAISING THE ROOF
AT GLANDORE
Glandore Harbour Yacht
Club near Cork is looking
to raise j10,000 towards
the cost of re-roofi ng its
clubhouse and creating a
full courtyard canopy for
the start of this season.

Sark Lighthouse was originally
built by Trinity House in 1913

From now until 4 June
2018, Hayling Island
Sailing Club is waiving its
joining fee of £350 in a bid
to recruit more members.
An open day will also be
held at the 96-year-old
club on 28 May, with
activities, food and music.

Canal & River Trust

SARK LIGHTHOUSE
Sark Lighthouse in the
Channel Islands will be
reliable for another 20 years
following re-engineering work,
according to Trinity House.
Two LED lanterns with a range
of 18 nautical miles replaced
the two-tonne rotating optic.

PLYMOUTH’S DRY
STACK MARINA
Marine fi rms based at
Plymouth’s Yacht Haven Quay
are expanding following an
upturn in trade.
Inboard and outboard
marine engine sales and
service company, Lewis
Marine, has just taken on
another full-time engineer due
to an increase in orders. It has
also become an offi cial Suzuki
Outboard dealer.
Similarly, Nathan Bone
Yacht Repairs & Refi ts has
expanded, moving into a new
boat shed and workshop on
the site, allowing the four-man
team to work on vessels up to
50ft (15m).

Plans to redevelop the Town
Quay mooring area at
Lymington have been
modifi ed.
Following demand in the
market, the Lymington
Harbour Commissioners
(LHC) has decided to increase
the number of walk ashore
visitor berths from 19 to 46.
Other improvements
include widening the
navigation fairway, enlarging
the turning space opposite the
commercial quay, and


relocating 17 commercial
fi shing boat berths upstream.
The southern end of the
walk ashore pontoon will also
be modifi ed to allow a larger
space for vessels using the
Berthon boatyard, and 43
resident small boat leisure
berths are to be relocated to a
new fi nger pontoon or fore
and aft moorings.
Subject to permission being
granted, work will start in
November 2019 and be
completed by Easter 2020.

WEST COAST, WALES AND IRELAND


Wave Hub Limited (WHL) is
looking to include a fl oating
wind farm in its
Pembrokeshire Wave Project.
The fi rm has just submitted an
environmental scoping report
to Natural Resources Wales
and the Marine Management
Organisation.
The 90km^2 site is located
approximately 15km off the
South Pembrokeshire
coastline. WHL believes that
by having both wave energy
and fl oating wind technology
on the site, it will be able to
generate 100MW of electricity,
as well as access more
fi nance for the project. WHL
said the fi rst electricity could
be generated by 2024.


TRANSFORMING CHESHIRE’S PEAK FOREST CANAL
Around £2.5 million is being spent on improving the Peak Forest
Canal in Cheshire. The Canal & River Trust is repairing three locks
on the Marple Lock Flight and installing a bespoke parapet railing
on the Grade I listed Marple Aqueduct. The canal is expected to
reopen by April 2018.
