Bag a bargain
■ As a PBO subscriber and
East Coast sailor I have
always enjoyed Dave Selby's
articles and antics with his
Sailfish 18, Marlin. However in
your article last month on
'How to bag a bargain boat'
you have surpassed yourself
as I am the proud owner of
Maisie, the Nova 27 pictured.
Fame for the faithful old girl at

last! In 15 years of ownership
she has taken us from St
Mawes to Lowestoft and all
points in between including
Holland each June. An
excellent buy for £8,500.
Many thanks for keeping us
all entertained over the years.
John Kingsnorth, Pin Mill

Dave Selby responds:
Thanks for your kind words. I
always appreciate it when

readers take the time to write
in, especially when they say
nice things.
You’ve been too kind though.
The pic of Maisie was in Rupert
Holmes’ section of the article.
She looks a fine boat and
you’ve certainly sailed her far
and wide.
If you’re ever down Maldon
way I’d be happy to find you a
nice cosy berth in one of our
local yards.

■ I built my own Van de Stadt
Pioneer 10 sailing yacht,
Singleminded, and launched
her in 1998. She was a
labour of love – I originally
bought the plans in 1973!
I shall be 90 during the
coming season and my
nephew and I have decided
to donate the boat to a
charity. If there are any PBO
readers who are involved in
a suitable charity, we would
be very pleased to hear
from you.
Singleminded is a lovely,
well kept yacht looking for a
deserving home. There are
no strings attached; this
would be a direct donation
for someone with a good

heart who wishes to teach
people who otherwise
couldn’t afford to enjoy
the sport.

Lovely LEDs
■ Lovely picture of an LED
anchor light in Andrew
Simpson’s April issue column

  • it’s just what I want!
    Unfortunately he didn’t say
where to get it or who is the
    manufacturer. Can you help?
    Nick Houlding, by email

Andrew Simpson replies: Not
100% sure about said light but I
know it was made before 2003
because that was the year we
left the UK and the photo was
taken while anchored in
Cawsands Bay. However, if my
dodgy memory serves it was
made by Aqua Signal.
