NEW GEAR

Electric furling
PBO reviewed a selection of electric
deck gear in February this year,
including electric headsail furlers.
Now Seldén Mast has unveiled the
new Furlex 204E and 304E, which
comes with a two speed button and
can be purchased as a complete unit
or as an upgrade kit. The new electric
furlers have been designed for yachts
in the 30-45ft range but Furlex
Electric is also available as an
upgrade kit for an existing Furlex
200S, 300S, 204S and 304S series.
The motor uses only 10-25A at
normal load and it takes 25-30
seconds to furl a genoa. When sailing
with a partly reefed genoa, the worm
drive provides a mechanical lock.
In order to prevent accidental
overloading, the system comes with
a built-in current limiter, which will cut
the motor if you attempt to furl
without releasing the sheet, for
example. In the event of power
failure, the sail is still simple to
furl manually.

Digital Yacht NMEA-

Seatalk interface
This palm-sized SeaTalk to NMEA
adaptor revives older ST40/50/60
instrument systems by enabling legacy
Raymarine electronics to interface with
modern displays and sensors.
Raymarine’s proprietary SeaTalk 1
interface was standard on a huge range
of instruments, autopilots and chart
plotters up until about 2012. Many of
these systems are still installed on boats
and functioning perfectly but users may
want to add additional sensors or
interface with other systems or even
with iPads and smartphones.
Digital Yacht’s new adaptor converts
Seatalk data to NMEA 0183 and
vice-versa allowing standard NMEA
transducers and sensors to be
integrated with older instruments. It can
also connect to Digital Yacht wireless
products allowing data to be sent to
iPad and tablet apps.
A USB version is also available.

General Ecology has appointed ASAP to
distribute its marine drinking water
purifiers in the UK and supply replacement
filter elements and pre-filter systems.
The Seagull IV unit enables water to be
drunk straight from a boat’s tanks, without
fear of contamination. A ‘structured matrix’
0.1 micron filter physically removes
bacteria, pathogenic cysts like Giardia,
Cryptosporidia, and other specific
parasites and debris. It works instantly, on
demand, without pre- or post-treatment,
without wasting water and without using
electricity. Two further filtration stages will
remove colour and odour at a flow rate of
four litres per minute.

Raymarine AIS700

Most new customers for AIS will have a
VHF antenna already installed, so units
such as the AIS700 with an antenna
splitter built in immediately remove some
of the hassle of installation. Raymarine’s
all-in-one solution contains a Class
B AIS transceiver and integrated VHF
splitter, all in one easy-to-fit box.
The AIS700 can connect to
SeaTalk NG, NMEA 0183 and 2000
networks and output to USB via a
micro B USB cable, but not Wi-Fi.
