A modern, sleek and stylish
design from new Belgian
builders Domani
Looking more like an Italian sportscar
than a Belgian weekend/daysailer, the
sleek Domani S30 is a real head turner.
Her low coachroof with the narrow slit
window fools you into thinking she’ll
be dark inside, but the centreline of the
coachroof has two overhead hatches
for light and ventilation.
Down below, there’s a vee berth forward and
two long berths that make the saloon seating
before they disappear aft under
the cockpit – great

companions. A narrow

I always like it when I find new ideas or
different ways to make life on board a little
bit better. One boat that caught my interest
at boot Düsseldorf was Dufour’s new Grand
Large 360. The layout was pretty standard;
layout one, shown at the boat show, has
one double cabin aft, another one forward
via double doors in the forward bulkhead,
a wide and stylish saloon, a decent forward-
facing chart table and an L-shaped galley.
The heads is
to starboard
behind the chart
table, but on the
reveal handy stowage for knickknacks.
There’s also a chemical toilet under the
aft end of the forward berth and an optional
small galley unit with
a sink and single
induction hob. The
saloon table can be
raised out of the way
or lowered to make
most of the interior
with one huge berth.
On deck, the cockpit
is vast with acres of
flat sunbathing space
either behind the tiller
or on the parallel seats
either side. The seats have nicely angled
seatbacks at their forward end, against the
aft end of the coachroof. The prototype
(pictured) has a retractable bowsprit but
on the show boat it has been replaced by
a shiny fixed carbon bowsprit.
She’s powered by a 2.0kW Torqeedo
electric saildrive via a 104Ah battery,
which is claimed to give 3.5 hours use
and recharges the battery while sailing.
second layout option it is replaced by
another double cabin; the heads moves
forward and there’s an aft-facing chart table
on the starboard
side of the saloon.
I liked the smaller
opening section
within the larger
opening lid of the
chart table, good
if you use a laptop
or want to get
something out
of the table without
disrupting everything
on the chart table. There were also neat
stowage areas around the galley, behind
and forward of the stove. As seems to
be the way nowadays, the coachroof is
crammed full of windows, which makes
below nice and light.
On deck, the helm was a little tight behind
the twin wheels. However, the fold-down
transom extends the length of the cockpit
when at rest and creates an area to stand
and use the aft-facing wet bar and grill.
