Trade-A-Boat – April 2018

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT John eortlessly cruising at 24kts at 3500rpm; The large
hardtop and cockpit easily accommodates three; A generous-size dash allows for the twin

sidepockets for your tackle.

margin to spare, to easily allow for
the extra weight carrying home the
big ones that didn’t get away. Just
how high the floor is can be shown
if you go to wash your hands from
the deck. I tried and couldn’t stretch
to the water, falling short by a good
300mm. Maybe those of the stature
of editor Tim could reach, but it’s
beyond a normal human.
In typical HH fashion, no
fibreglass is spared in the hand-
laid construction. Layers of woven
rovings are strengthened with gun
rovings and a precise weight of
resin to obtain the correct measure
of strength and weight, while a
vinylester barrier under the gelcoat
maximises osmosis protection.

If you subscribe to the “big is better”
theory of boating, then the 700
might be the rig for you. It turns
heads and can carry a big crew. But it
also needs a big budget and a big
tow rig and as a fishing platform
without compromise, it might not
pass the family test.
