if no reply to your first call, wait :2 minutes before calling again -
and 2 minutes more if still no reply;
if no reply to 3 calls at :2 minute intervals, extend the calling interval
to 3 minutes;
if you are requested to cease calling, by a coast station, you must
respect that request.

2 4125, 6215, 12290 and 16420 kHz are also used for voice distress,
urgency and safety traffic in the GMDSS. Before transmitting on these
frequencies, you should listen out for a 'reasonable period' (at least 3
minutes) to ensure that no distress traffic is in progress. Should you
inadvertently transmit on a frequency where distress (or urgency/
safety) traffic is in progress you must cease transmission at the first
request from any station involved in distress working.
3 Although calling frequencies are available, there is nothing to stop
ships arranging scheduled times to call direct on one of the available
working frequencies.
