events will be happening in Cavan?
The UNESCO Geopark in West Cavan and
Fermanagh run a fantastic programme of
exciting outdoor-based events across the

The Taste of Cavan is taking place in
August, what can visitors expect from this
event?
The 9th and 10th August this year sees the
return of the annual Taste of Cavan Food
Festival – the ‘food event of the summer’! The
event takes place over two days just outside
Cavan town and is a superb two days of
family fun, showcasing a mouth-watering
selection of the very best local and regional
food and drinks produce. Some of the
country’s best chefs will be there including
Neven Maguire, Simon Delaney, Jeeny
Maltese, Gearóid Lynch, Brian McDermott,
Shane Smyth, Adrian Martin and Máire
Dufficy, not to mention a host of workshops,
masterclasses and activities for everyone.

What are the top three things to visit in
Cavan?
Make sure to visit Cavan County Museum
and the World War 1 Trench Experience- the only true-to-life replica WW1 Trench
in Ireland or the UK. The museum is also
fantastic and showcases a wide range of
exhibitions and installations. Cavan Burren
Park in the west of the County is definitely
worth a visit with its breath-taking views and
ancient megaliths. Visit the park’s information
centre or take a wander along one of
four marked trails. Finally, for a tour with a
difference, take a boat trip to the island castle
of Clough Oughter. Extraordinarily beautiful in
its isolation, Clough Oughter Castle stands
like a silent sentinel on an island in the centre
of the lake. Tours by boat, kayak or canoe

Keeping kids entertained over the holidays
can be tricky, what does Cavan have to
offer to suit kids?
Cavan has four absolutely beautiful forest
parks – Killykeen; Dun an Ri; Deerpark
and Castle Lake – each of these parks
has a number of marked trails for cycling
and walking which are ideal for children.
Cavan Adventure Centre also caters for
kids of all ages with double kayaks and the
really popular giant inflatable slide. Bear
Essentials visitor centre offers Teddy Bear
craft workshops for kids and adults and also
houses a large collection of hand-made bears
which are just adorable. ODD AdventureCentre can provide some high-octane fun
for kids (and big kids) with hovercraft drift
experiences, clay pigeon shooting, paintball
and ‘Dirt Dudes Buggy Racing’ for the

Cavan has an amazing food experience to
offer. Restaurants such as MacNean House in
Blacklion, the Olde Post Inn in Cloverhill; the
Oak Room, Cavan and Virginia Park Lodge
