Dave Gerr - Boat Mechanical Systems Handbook-How to Design, Install, and Recognize Proper Systems in Boats

(Rick Simeone) #1

Table 22-7 presents the minimum recom-
mended number of anchors. It’s not unusual
for a boat to carry one to three more anchors,
depending on how serious their crew is about
cruising. In fact, traditional sailing vessels
carried as many as eight to ten anchors.
Table 22-8 shows HMS Victory’s standard
anchor complement.

HMSVictorywas 226 feet long from
bowsprit to taffrall and carried 104 guns
into the Battle of Trafalgar. Chances are
you won’t need as many anchors or an-
chors as large, but more and bigger is often
better.
