BlueWater Boats & Sportsfishing – July 2019

(Nandana) #1

O

n the international sportfishing scene, no organisation
is as well recognised as the Florida-based International
Game Fish Association (IGFA). Much of its respect
comes from the high standards it sets in maintaining
records and creating rules for the proper tackle and methods for
catching fish.
In order to carry out its mission, the IGFA spends much
of its energy distributing helpful information through its
website, International Angler and International Junior Angler
newsletters, and its world-class yearbook, World Record Game
Fishes. The individual responsible for the production of all this
is the multi-talented Adrian E Gray, who has found his home as
the IGFA’s Creative Manager.

ADRIAN GRAY

THE IGFA’S CREATIVE MASTER

Whether captured in a photograph or a meticulous oil painting, Adrian E Gray’s art
encapsulates moments in time that we can all relate and aspire to. This amazingly talented
young man is also a superb angler, a marine biologist and the Creative Manager responsible
for all of the IGFA’s many publications and online media.

A LIFELONG ANGLER
Born in South Africa on the south-eastern shore of the Indian
Ocean, Adrian began his passion for fishing at an early age.
Until about age 11, Adrian’s main target was kob – a fish known
as mulloway in Australia – which grows to two metres and can
weigh as much as 70kg.
Adrian’s childhood was spent during the time of Nelson
Mandela’s imprisonment, when apartheid was the rule and
South Africa suffered much strife. His family owned a successful
chain of clothing stores, but his father chose to sell the business
and relocate, rather than exposing his family to the chaos of
government unrest. They left East London in 1988 and travelled to
Japan and Hawaii before settling in the suburbs of New York City.
