he anticipated number of superyacht new build deliveries
over 30m (98.5ft) this year will be approximately 190,
a 25%+ rise over the 150 or so average that has been
delivered annually over the last six years. On paper that figure
should instil some confidence, ref lecting robust growth, and yet
there are mixed views in the marketplace creating a degree of
uncertainty as to the new build sector’s prospects going forward.
Statistics presented by the Superyacht Group at Australian
Superyacht, Marine Export & Commercial Marine Industry
(ASMEX) conference in May bore out the underlying reasons for
that nervousness – in 2019 a total of 193 superyachts are due to
be delivered, with 13 of those having been delivered by May. The
number of deliveries scheduled for 2020 is presently 121, followed
by 48 to date in 2021.
