larger hardtop trailer boats from 7m-9m both in
aluminium and fibreglass. Most manufacturers
report a good sales year, and while the fibreglass
trailer boat builders released exceptionally few new
models, the same could not be said for the alloy boat
builders. Not only did the market see established
brands releasing new models through the years,
but also the addition of new players. It is estimated
there are over 60 alloy boatbuilders in New Zealand
compared to less than 10 fibreglass brands.
The aluminium boat market has grown
substantially in the past few years with many
companies enjoying increasing export orders, mainly
to Australia and the South Pacific.
One of New Zealand’s leading premium trailer
boatbuilders, Tristram Marine, has according to
Business Development manager Tristram Fink
enjoyed one of their best years ever.
“Interest going forward is unprecedented, and
orders are already in Tristram Marine’s system for
December 2019 delivery.
“Tristram Marine’s growth has resulted in the
need for developing a brand new state-of-the-art and
purpose-built Service Centre adjacent to our existing
Service Centre, Showroom & Production Plant to
further enhance owners’ experiences and internal
capabilities,” adds Fink.
“Our points of difference include our use of CAD
design and CNC moulding, combined with our
direct-sales business model which enables owners
to deal directly with our team, rather than
HELLA MARINE IS a leading LED lighting manufacturer that
designs and manufactures marine specific lighting solutions
for the marine sector, from its dedicated electronics and
production facilities in New Zealand. 80% of the products
manufactured in New Zealand are exported through the
global Hella network and dedicated marine distributors in
over 35 different countries.
“Over the last 12 months, the New Zealand boat market
has seen continued growth. Inside this trend, Hella Marine
AS FASTMOUNT CELEBRATES its 15th year of designing
and manufacturing hidden panel mounting systems, the
business continues to see fantastic growth, on both a
product and sales basis. With 38 SKUs across seven product
ranges and 31 distributors representing the company
worldwide, Fstmount have seen an average 15% increase per
annum over the past five years, and a strong 22% increase in
the year ending 2018.
A company spokesperson says that while the
architectural market has now surpassed the marine industry
in terms of sales, they still see the marine market going
forward due to the larger scale of yachts being built.
“We continue to field enquiries to design new solutions
for specific problems, as was seen with our Textile Range,
that we launched in 2017 for use with marine upholstery.
“This indicates to us that we are trusted in this market as
manufacturers of high performance products for an industry
that increasingly values performance as time goes on. We still
manufacture our clips in New Zealand, which continues to be
a huge drawcard internationally in terms of quality. Of course
having our design team and manufacturer in the same city
allows for an efficient concept to production workflow.”
Fastmount continues to see how the marine market
impacts architectural and vice versa and in May launched the
Stratlock Range that they designed for use with aluminium
framework on land, but it also gained a lot of interest from
superyacht builders at METSTRADE.

LIGHT FANTASTIC - HELLAMARINE has been capturing additional market share, as customers
and OEMs are increasingly demanding innovative and reliable
products. Not to mention, the high service level that is offered
being a locally manufactured product,” says Duncan Sterling
marketing manager for Hella Marine.
New Hella Marine product releases have continued to
stimulate export sales of marine LED lighting to key regions
such as Australia, Asia, USA, Europe and Scandinavia. With an
already extensive range of LED lighting options Hella marine’s
recent additions have expanded the range of ‘EuroLED’
interior lighting and the ‘Sea Hawk’ light bars.
“With boating activities stretching further into the early
morning, evening and even at night, the need for good quality
light is ever increasing, which means more lighting is being
fitted to vessels. Along with the prolonged time on the water,
people are becoming more educated in the differences
between LED lighting available in the market,” added Stirling.
Hella Marine continues to focus on the higher end leisure
and commercial marine sectors that demand durability and
reliability.
