BLENHEIM PALACE
LETITIA MACE REPORTS ON
Chris Sturgess, of Sturgess Jaguar, renowned Leicester outlet
and oldest surviving family-owned Jaguar dealership in the
UK, asked Rob and I if we would like to take his most prized
possession to Blenheim Palace for the weekend ... It was a
Project 7, so how could we refuse an offer like that? We had
so much fun, and it was very hard to give it back!
We stayed at Heythrop Park, along with most of the other JEC
members, and travelled the short distance to and from historic
Blenheim Palace for the event.
Friday evening at Heythrop Park we enjoyed a TWR talk, and
knew many of the ex-TWR employees who were present on
Friday, and at Blenheim Palace during Sunday.
On Saturday we drove to Blenheim Palace for set-up, and
Saturday evening back to Heythrop Park for the Gala Dinner.
We shared a table with Nigel and Wendy Webb, Phil and Mrs
Tucker, David Marks, Ron Siddle and Rob’s fellow auctioneer/
commentator, Wayne Scott.
Rob had been asked to do the auction with Wayne Scott, and
it raised almost £9000, all of which went to the JEC charity for
this year -the Invictus Games.
I invited Win Percy to donate a copy of his signed biography
WIN1, published by Editor Les. Hughes for him, for the auction,
and it fetched £100. All of that went to Invictus Games!
Bruce Foster was on hand to take pictures, so Rob and I had
shots taken of ourselves too with the Project 7, a memento of
the event. It was a very early start on Sunday morning which
saw us marshalling the traders in to Blenheim Palace, after
which we took care of Nigel Webb’s V12 XJ220 - the only V12
powered XJ220 in existence, aside from the original concept
car which is held by Jaguar Heritage and can be seen in the
museum at Gaydon.
What a time - and we knew how highly privileged we were!
