Batman’s

superyacht

Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli has
built his very own batboat. Unimpressed with
off-the-shelf designs from production builders,
the fashion guru asked superyacht designer
Tommaso Spadolini to create ‘a boat that
Batman would drive’.
The result is every bit as dramatic as one
of Cavalli’s own catwalk creations. Powered
by triple 1900hp MAN engines linked to
Rolls-Royce KaMeWa waterjets, the 28m
superyacht, named Freedom, is capable of
an impressive 40 knots.
However, it’s the flamboyant styling and
dark colouring as much as the performance
that would appeal to the caped crusader.
A swooping hard top that plunges all the
way back to the transom gives it a side

profile as dramatic as any Batmobile.
Unlike Cavalli’s other boat, a 41m Baglietto,
which is predominantly used for corporate
entertainment, Freedom is for his own personal
use. That meant limiting it to a waterline length
of less than 24m so that he can drive it himself.
The layout is just as unconventional as the
styling with the owner’s suite on the same
raised level as the pilothouse so that it enjoys
the best possible sea views, good natural
ventilation and private access to a small
sundeck lounge. A short staircase also leads
aft from the owner’s suite down to the main
saloon so that Cavalli can use this as another
private lounge when no other guests are on
board. The aft cockpit itself is even lower down,
with sliding glass doors on three sides to
