BELMORE HOUSE, COWES
There’s a reason this fi ne house lies only 200m from
the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes – it was built
for one of the RYS founder members, Lord Belmore.
Grade II listed, the house has classically proportioned
rooms with large windows and unobstructed views
over the Solent. In addition to an extensive driveway to
the front there is a garage and further parking to the
rear. The secluded south-facing garden includes a
heated swimming pool, lawns, mature borders and
various terraces. The town’s amenities are just a short
walk away, including world-renowned sailing facilities.

ANCHOR LIGHT
Strictly speaking, an oil lamp should be a
back-up to electric navigation lights, but many
seafarers believe them more e‚ ective than
masthead anchor lights which get lost among
the stars. The warm glow from this lamp hung
in the fore-triangle will ensure a safe night
at anchor. It also makes a great emergency
navigation light. Manufactured in copper with
a polished unlacquered fi nish, it is fi tted with
4in dioptric lens and a brass hoop that folds
down to stop it from swaying in the wind
(not shown). £186.08 plus oil £7.50 (1L)

DOG FASHION
FROM HERRESHOFF
Is your family pooch doing all he can to project
good taste and refi nement when it comes to
matters nautical? No, we guessed not. He’s
probably too busy chasing gulls. All is not lost,
as a visit to the online Herreshof Museum
Store will allow you to secure for Fido this
rather natty adjustable webbing collar and
6ft lead combo tastefully decorated with a
Herreshof emblazoned ribbon. It won’t stop
Fido chasing gulls, but at least he’ll be
doing it in style. Collar $25, Lead $38.

SHEPHERD
24HR CLOCK
REPLICA
The famous Shepherd electric
clock on the gate of the Royal
Observatory at Greenwich
survives as part of the 1853
system that helped to spread
Greenwich Mean Time signals
around the world using new-
fangled electricity. It’s the fi rst
clock to have displayed GMT to
the public, and is also notable
for its 24hr dial, although it’s
no longer connected to the
Greenwich master clock. This
45cm diameter glass and metal
replica is available from Royal
Museums Greenwich
priced at £150.
