JULY/AUGUST 1989 CB15
People sometimes think we don’t feature glass classics – or
that we have only just started to recently. While most boats
on these pages are wooden, we have always featured classic
glass, plastic fantastic, call it what you will. In CB15, we tested
the Fisher 34 motor sailer. Yachts like these – “motor fi shing
vessel yachts” or “MFV yachts” – are of a di erent aesthetic
to the yachty look, as the author Martin Tregoning
acknowledged. “I have always thought anyone using ‘ship’
when describing their own boat is taking things a little too
far,” he continued. “My fi rst moments aboard the Fisher 34
disproved the rule and convinced me that ‘ship’ is an apt and
complimentary description.” The large interior volume of a
boat like this, the roomy wheelhouse, and sheer bulk make
sense for the North Sea, where the type evolved, as much for
the modern sailor as for the cod fi shermen who preceded him.
Price then was £68,000, about what a good, used one is now.
