Most IAAF Diamond Race athletics titles
At the end of every Diamond League season, the
athlete with the most points in each discipline is
awarded the Diamond Race. From 2010 to 2016,
Renaud Lavillenie (FRA) won seven Diamond
Race titles in the pole vault.
The most IAAF Diamond Race athletics
titles (female) is five, by Valerie Adams (N~)
in the shot put in 2011–14 and 2016. Adams’s
record was equalled by Sandra Perkovi (HRV)
in the discus in 2012–16.
Fastest wheelchair 100 m (T53, female)
Huang Lisha (CHN) completed the T53
wheelchair 100 m in 16.19 sec at the 2016
Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on
8 Sep. The T53 class covers athletes with full
use of their arms but no trunk functionality.
The fastest wheelchair 400 m (T53,
female) is 54.43 sec, by Hongzhuan ~hou (CHN),
recorded at the Rio Paralympics
on 11 Sep 2016.
Farthest club throw (F32, female)
Maroua Brahmi (TUN) threw a club 26.93 m
(88 ft 4 in) at the Rio Paralympic Games on 9 Sep
- Two days later, at the same event, Joanna
Butterfield (UK) achieved the farthest club
throw (F51, female)DZ 22.81 m (74 ft 10 in).
F32 denotes coordination impairment; F51
denotes limb deficiency, limited muscle
power or restricted movement.
Farthest javelin throw (F40, male)
Paralympian Ahmed Naas (IRX) threw
a javelin 35.29 m (115 ft 9 in) on 11 Sep
- F40 denotes short stature.
Farthest hammer throw (female)
Poland’s Anita WÂodarczyk threw 82.98 m
(272 ft 2 in) at the Skolimowska Memorial in
Warsaw, Poland, on 28 Aug 2016. It was the
second time she had broken the record in a
month, having thrown 82.29 m (269 ft 11 in)
en route to Olympic gold on 15 Aug.
Most IAAF Hammer Throw
Challenge wins (male)
Pawe Fajdek (POL) won three IAAF Hammer
Throw Challenges, in 2013 and 2015–16. In doing
so, he matched the achievement of Hungary’s
Krisztin Pars in 2011–12 and 2014.
Highest pole vault (female, indoors)
Jennifer Suhr (USA) successfully cleared a
height of 5.03 m (16 ft 6.03 in) in Brockport, New
york, USA, on 30 Jan 2016. She broke her own
mark of 5.02 m (16 ft 5.63 in), set on 2 Mar 2013.
Most IAAF Race Walking
Challenge wins (male)
Wang ~hen (CHN) won the Race Walking
Challenge twice, in 2012 and 2016. The
feat had previously been achieved by
Robert Korzeniowski (POL)
in 2003–04, Paquillo
Fernndez (ESP)
in 2005–06 and
Jared Tallent
(AUS) in 2008
and 20 13.
MOST APPEARANCES IN IAAF DIAMOND LEAGUE MEETINGS
Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare has appeared at Diamond League meetings
50 times, competing in the 100 m, 200 m and long jump disciplines between
3 Jul 2010 and 9 Sep 2016. Hot on her heels are Kenyans Viola Kibiwot
(competing in the 1,500 m and 5,000 m events) and Asbel Kiprop (in the
800 m and 1,500 m), both of whom have made 48 appearances.
MOST OLYMPIC ATHLETICS GOLD MEDALS WON (FEMALE)
On 19 Aug 2016, Allyson Felix (USA) won her sixth Olympic gold medal in the
4 x 100 m relay. The US team recovered from a dropped baton in the Rio heats
to win the final from lane 1. Felix had previously won the 4 x 100 m relay at
London 2012, and was part of triumphant 4 x 400 m relay teams at Beijing
2008, London and Rio. She also has an individual gold from the 200 m in 2012.
FASTEST 100 M
(T44, FEMALE)
On 17 Sep 2016,
Sophie Kamlish
(UK) completed the
100 m T44 sprint in
12.93 sec at the Rio
2016 Paralympic
Games in Brazil.
Unfortunately for
Kamlish, she just
missed out on a
gold medal on the
day. In the last track
athletics final staged
at Rio 2016, she was
beaten to the bronze
medal by Trinidad and
Tobago’s Nyoshia
Cain, who ran the
race six-hundredths
of a second faster
than her.
FASTEST 100 M
HURDLES (FEMALE)
The USA’s Kendra
Harrison completed the
women’s 100 m hurdles in
a time of 12.20 sec during
the Diamond League
meeting at the Olympic
Stadium in London,
UK, on 22 Jul 2016. In
doing so, Harrison beat
a record that had stood
since 20 Aug 1988, when
yordanka Donkova (BGR)
set a time of 12.21 sec in
Stara ~agora, Bulgaria.
Okagbare
won a bronze
medal in the long
jump at Beijing 2008.
She has since won gold
at the Commonwealth
Games, the African
Championships, the
IAAF World Relays
and the All-Africa
Games.
