s if to hammer home the
outboard day boat theme of
this year’s show, purveyor of
scaled down superyachts,
Ocean Alexander, will display
its fi rst boat of this type at
Cannes. This is a serious machine, with eyes on
Boston Whaler, Fjord and the new Gulf Craft
Oryx, and storming performance from a quartet
of 350hp outboards.
It comes in a fi shing and diving layout, the
diving one looks of more use to leisure boaters
merican power catamaran
specialist Aquila will be hoping
to put a cat amongst the
pigeons (yes, we went there)
with the European launch of its
outboard-
powered 36. At a time
when day boats with
outboards are having
a boom in popularity, this
spacious, Chinese-built cat
with a variety of Mercury
Verado engine options is
sure to turn a few heads.
With so much beam to
play with, its deck
spaces are as
comfortable as
they are practical,
and there’s space
within the deep hulls
for a pair of comfortable
ensuite double cabins.
It’s defi nitely worth
a closer look.

thanks to folding platforms that extend the
cockpit’s width and a convertible double
berth in the open-plan cabin below with a
separate day heads/bathroom.
The foredeck combines sunbathing
space with an additional dinette to supplement
the larger one in the cockpit. It’s an expensive
boat but it looks to be both a versatile and very
capable new contender.
