Market overview
The real-estate market in the
Balearics has recovered well
since Spain’s financial crash.
“Despite Brexit uncertainty,
UK demand has remained the
same,” says Alejandra Vanoli,
managing director at VIVA
Sotheby’s International Realty.
The most desirable areas for
properties are south-west
of Mallorca. “Port d’Andratx,
Santa Ponsa and residential
areas close to Port Adriano are
popular, with their international
schools, wonderful ports
and golf courses.”
love walking through the front door
and seeing this view,” says Susie
Kempe, co-owner of Infinity, the
recently completed eight-bedroom
villa commanding a prime position on the hillside
of Mon Port. As the vast living area opens on to an
infinity pool terrace with views of the rolling hills
and the bustling port – where fishing boats and
superyachts coexist – it is hard to disagree.
Paul and Susie Kempe are no strangers to
such projects, having developed residential and
commercial builds in London including Tileyard
Music studios, but Infinity marks the couple’s first
foray into development in the Balearic Islands. “It
has been a journey of three years to make sure it has
the right feel, look and style,” says Paul. In order to
realise their vision, the Kempes, who are also the
owners of Balearics Sotheby’s International Realty,
used local architects Luis García-Ruiz and Antonio
García-Ruiz to create the Mallorquin-inspired villa.
The focal point of the home is the downstairs
indoor and outdoor living area, with neutral tones
and glass walls contrasting with pops of colour
added by the furniture and modern art, curated by
Palma’s Galería Pelaires. Upstairs, two master
suites and a further two bedrooms make the most
of the panoramic Mediterranean views. There is a
fifth bedroom that can also be used as an office. The
remaining three en-suite bedrooms are cleverly
separated from the other accommodation, and sit
beneath the outdoor terrace and pool. Complete
with a fully-equipped gym and small kitchen, the
area is designed to serve as separate guest quarters.
The final flourish to the home is the basement,
which serves as a multi-generational entertainment
space, with an indoor pool, bar, wine-tasting cellar,
cinema and sauna. Ideal for petrolheads, this family
space has a glass wall looking directly into the
underground garage, which has a turntable so
you can watch your favourite car on rotation.
What makes this property stand out is the detail.
“A house is defined by its finishes,” says Paul. “It has
been a revelation to see the quality of workmanship
in Mallorca.” This can be seen throughout the
property from the bespoke Boffi-designed kitchen,
with a stone worktop and timber units with
polished aluminium detailing, to the stunning slab
of blue Italian marble that forms the back wall to
the shower in one of the master suites.
