14 Jeremiah 21-36: A Translation

all the kings of the north, those near and those far, one to another; yes, all the
world's kingdoms that are on the face of the earth. And the king of Sheshak
shall drink after them.

(^27) Then you shall say to them:
Thus said Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel:
Drink and be drunk, yes, vomit and fall, and you shall never rise before the
sword that I am sending among you.
(^28) And it will happen that they will refuse to take the cup from your hand to
drink; then you shall say to them:
Thus said Yahweh of hosts:
You shall certainly drink!^29 For look, if I am beginning to work evil in the
city upon which my name is called, then for you, shall you assuredly go un-
punished?
You shall not go unpunished, for I am calling a sword upon all the inhabi-
tants of the earth-oracle of Yahweh of hosts.



  1. Yahweh Will Roar from on High (25:30-31)


25 30 And you, you shall prophesy to them all these words, and you shall say to
them:
Yahweh will roar from on high
and from his holy abode he will utter his voice
He will roar mightily against his pasture
a shout like the treaders will ring out
to all the inhabitants of the earth

(^31) The uproar has reached the end of the earth
for Yahweh has a case against the nations
He has entered into judgment with all flesh
as for the wicked, he has given them over to the sword
-oracle of Yahweh.



  1. Evil Will Travel (25:32-33)


25 32 Thus said Yahweh of hosts:
Look, evil shall go forth
from nation to nation
A great tempest is roused
from remote parts of the earth.

(^33) And they shall be-the slain of Yahweh in that day-from the one end of the
earth to the other end of the earth. They shall not be lamented, and they shall
