Take part in 30 Days Wild
Since 2015, more than two million people have
taken part in the Wildlife Trust’s 30 Days Wild
and it’s back again this June. If you haven’t
already, sign up to undertake a “random act of
wildness” every day throughout the month of
June. You could walk barefoot through the
grass, have a go at giving a tree a hug, listen to
birdsong or do an exercise session with your
friends outdoors. Find out how you can get
involved with

Editor’s note

Did you have a good Jubilee
weekend? We’ve got a report on p5
about the celebrations that happened
up and down the country. I had a great
time, meeting my neighbours – and
sampling all five entries to the local Jubilee pudding
competition. (Five helpings of pudding are too many,
it turns out, although it was a delicious experiment.)
I thought the Jubilee felt fantastic after the last couple of
years. Socialising with neighbours at the lighting of the
beacon – and then again to discuss puddings – felt like a
happy follow-up to Covid, when all we could do was
wave to each other during lockdown. The chance to meet
and talk and have fun showed us all how important
community is. According to a new study by Save the
Children, young people don’t need to be told this. It was
so heartening, refreshing and beautiful to read the story
on p3, that a huge majority of young people wish they
could do more to help others in their own country and
across the world. This week has been all about
friendship, forgetting our differences and celebrating
how brilliant we are when we work together, and it’s
been wonderful.

What have you been up to lately? Which books have you enjoyed
reading? What have you made? Have you written a poem or drawn a
picture that you’d like to see published on this page? Whatever you
have to show or tell us, get in touch at [email protected]

I love writing because it is
a good way to let my ideas
flow and I get
transported to a world
with no limits. Writing
helps me unblock all
my thoughts, it is as if
I’m talking to myself! I
also like getting into the
minds of my characters and
giving everyday objects
emotions. Sometimes I find it hard to
continue writing a story without getting distracted
by other ideas for a new story, so I end up writing
more than one story at a time.
My favourite books are The Lion Above the Door

Go wild in nature.

by Onjali Q. Raúf, and Nevermoor by
Jessica Townsend. Nevermoor inspired
me to start writing fantasy stories.
When I am older, I would like to write
novels and poetry. I would like my first book to be
a fantasy novel, which I have already started
planning out. Recently, I came second place in the
ISA Essay Competition for my
story entitled ‘Mysterious
Matilda’.
