BACK-TO-BACK MANAGER
PRIZES FOR FERGUSON

World Soccer’s 2008 World Manager
of the Year Alex Ferguson admitted
recently that he once stood up Frank
Sinatra because he was so annoyed
at a poor performance by his side.
“From my point of view, you can’t
beat Sinatra. I was actually supposed
to have dinner with him one night,
but we lost to Charlton so I cancelled
it and went home. I wasn’t in the
mood to meet anybody that night,
so I went back home on the bus.”
That was back in1989 when
Ferguson had yet to establish United
as the global force they are today,
European champions for the third
time in 2007-08 and now competing
for the world club title inJapan.
In the interview, given toMUTV,
Ferguson admitted that he has
mellowed in recent times. “There
was a period, maybe10-12 years
ago, when I was obsessed with
everything,” he admitted. “I would
come home at night and phone the
scouts and other managers – I was
involved in everything at the club.
“Bit by bit, I realised I had to find
other avenues in which to use my
energy and not be obsessed with
everything that was happening at
Old Trafford.”
