Yoga Therapy As A Creative Response To Pain

Matthew J Taylor
Singing Dragon
£24.99

A guide for yoga therapists which brings pain science, creativity and yoga together
to support clients with chronic pain from Matthew J Taylor, a past president of the
International Association of Yoga Therapists. The book includes the emotional, cognitive,
social and spiritual in its definition of pain and acknowledges that there is no simple
physical ‘fix’. Offers advice on creating an environment that restores hope and meaning
to clients. Taylor’s approach came from his own chronic spine pain as a physical therapist
and his discovery of yoga therapy, which led to his own yoga-based rehabilitation clinic.

Stripped-Back Yoga

Julia Thorley

Stripped-back Yoga is the latest book from
yoga teacher and author Julia Thorley. Inside,
she has collected her thoughts on what she
has learned on her mat. Some of the pieces
are about practical aspects of yoga and
others are a bit ranty...her opinions are not
always humble and may well make you cross,
but some should raise a smile and might give
you pause for thought. Stripped-back Yoga
is a book about yoga to be dipped in and
out of when you have a couple of minutes to
spare. “Some of the pieces are about practical
aspects, but it’s not a ‘how to do yoga’ book,”
the author says. “Much of it is simply my
opinion and observations, so I hope it will
appeal to those who practice yoga and those
who don’t.”

We all fall somewhere on the addiction
spectrum and whether that manifests as
alcoholism, binge eating or an angry tongue,
it is created by unhealthy and destructive
excess. This book addresses how we can
overcome disharmony, primarily through
meditation, to find balance and peace within
ourselves. Underpinned by meditation,
Buddhism and quantum physics yet written in
a ‘girl-next-door’ non-academic language, the
Quantum Sobriety approach will guide you
step-by-step towards freedom. The second
book from Inner Guidance yoga teacher and
retreats leader Jo De Rosa.

Written in a down-to-earth style, Healing
With Yoga is part memoir and part practical
help book. The author draws on her own
knowledge, which helped her through a
traumatic time, to share her insights with
others. In each chapter, there are yoga poses,
breathing exercises and meditations that
can help in any challenging situation. The
practices are useful for all kinds of healing,
emotional and physical. This book is also part
memoir, from the author discovering that
she had inherited the mutated BRCA gene to
her last risk reducing surgery and everything
in-between. A story of courage, strength and a
determination to heal.
