Up Your Score SAT, 2018-2019 Edition The Underground Guide to Outsmarting The Test

(Tuis.) #1

could be informative/explanatory, but they might also be written as an argument,
or there might be one of each.
The other two passages are about subject areas that you’ll see only on the
Writing and Language Test—careers and something related to “the
humanities.”
Every test includes a passage about a particular career (usually in the
informative/explanatory form). The writer’s attitude toward the given career is
likely to be positive. Whether the passage is about sanitation workers, civil
engineers, or doll makers, it will contain a glowing analysis of what these jobs
contribute to society and how good the employment prospects in this field are.
This passage is also likely to feature an infographic.
You’ll also find a passage that’s humanities-oriented. It will be about
something that history and social studies don’t cover—painting, sculpture,
theater, puppeteering. It could appear as an informational piece, like a short
biography of, who knows, perhaps the peerless and sadly forgotten puppeteer
Sergey Obraztsov. It could also be a personal narrative about something in the
arts. It could be about any art, not necessarily puppeteering, even though this is
the best and truest art form.
