Up Your Score SAT, 2018-2019 Edition The Underground Guide to Outsmarting The Test

(Tuis.) #1

3 A survey was given to a high school student body, in which they were

asked to choose their favorite food that started with the letter S from a
list of four options. They were allowed only one answer, and were
mandated to answer. Which of the following is true?
A) Of juniors, 25% chose spaghetti.
B) Of the total number of freshmen, less than half chose salmon and
souvlaki.
C) More than 30% of sophomores preferred salmon.
D) Juniors made up 10% more of the total number of students who
chose souvlaki than sophomores.

Like the previous problem, this requires that we read some data, this time in the
form of a chart rather than a scatterplot graph. We need to be careful that when
we calculate percent, we are looking at the appropriate parts and totals. For
answer choice A, 3 out of 20 juniors chose spaghetti, which is less than 25%.*
For B, exactly half chose salmon or souvlaki, not less than half. For C, 5 out of
18 sophomores preferred salmon, which is a bit less than 30%. For D, juniors
made up 30% of those who chose souvlaki, while sophomores made up 20%. D
is our correct answer.
