The main causes of death in children aged one
month to five years are pneumonia, diarrhoea,
malaria and measles.
Did you know?
It’s important to remember that even if your child falls and is knocked
unconscious it doesn’t necessarily mean they have concussion. However,
if your child experiences any of the following symptoms, you should take
them to an emergency room or a doctor: loss of consciousness; a severe
headache, including a headache that gets worse; blurred vision; trouble
walking; confusion and saying things that don’t make sense; slurred speech
and unresponsiveness (they won’t wake up). Other symptoms like vomiting,
dizziness or trouble concentrating are also cause for concern and you need
to call your doctor immediately – or head to the nearest hospital. It can take
anything from 24-72 hours after an injury for concussion symptoms to present.
Children usually recover quickly from concussion, but don’t rush their
recovery as it can take longer for their brains to recover and they could
struggle with memory loss, headaches and concentration issues for a few
weeks after the accident.
