om mind

and outdated words of somebody else, and upgrading these old
records for more relevant MP3s is just as easy as deciding that you
want to.

Here’s How:

Step 1
Determine your worst ‘thought habit’. This is the verse you can
count on to bring you down, hold you hostage in your comfort
zone, minimise your faith in miracles, and stomp on your greatest
dreams. Once you’ve identified the song (or songs, as the case
may be) write it down, and then say it out loud. Now, deep in the
recesses of your heart, is this something you truly believe? Often
this small action is enough to expose the nonsensical and self-
limiting belief.

Step 2
“Don’t believe everything you think.” Thanks for this advice, Louise
Hay! Just because your mind expresses certain opinions, doesn’t
mean you have to accept them. They certainly aren’t a universal
truth. If any of the ideas don’t uplift you, ditch ‘em and skip to the
next song.

Step 3
Replace your old song list with new mantras. Borrow one from
someone you admire or make up one of your own. I find the
simpler the statement, the better. For example, “I am the master of
my destiny,” empowers me. “This too shall pass,” is reassuring. “My
life is full of abundance” reminds me of the wealth that surrounds
me and elicits feelings of gratitude. Choose one (or ten) that
resonates with you.

Step 4
Turn down the volume on those old rhythm and blues and crank up
the sound on the new. When you drift back to old thought patterns
(as you undoubtedly will, because change takes time), read
something that reminds you of your purpose and potential. Have
inspiring books, quotes, TED talks, or films on hand to top up your
‘inspiration tank’ when you’re running on empty. These habits are
like having a motivational coach in your back pocket!

Step 5
Take steps towards creating a funk-free new you. It’s not enough to
wish for weight loss or hope that you write a bestseller. You must
work for it. Take small steps towards change, avoid grand gestures,
and keep plugging away every single day. Huge commitments can
fall by the wayside, taking your confidence with them. Small steps
ensure your success and build the empowering momentum of
achievement. If you want to write a novel, turn down the critic and
crank up your new mantra: “I’m a talented writer. What I have to
say matters.” Take action by writing just one sentence a day, every
day. If you want to lose weight, lace up your shoes and walk to the
end of the street—that’s it. But do it every single day.

Follow these five simple steps, and your confidence will soar. Each
‘slump’ will become a bump in the road to your accomplishments

  • one you’ll navigate like a pro.
