Proof that you’re only as old you

feel: yoga’s most inspirational figure

M

eet Tao Porchon-Lynch. This American
wonder woman is something of a
legend in the yoga world. In 2012, she
was named ‘Oldest Yoga Teacher’ by
Guinness World Records. That was five
years ago. She turned 99 this year (on August 13, to be
precise)...and she still teaches yoga. In fact, she flew to
the UK earlier in the year for a guest appearance at this
summer’s World Yoga Festival. What a woman!
She was featured in OM magazine in 2015 and her
story is nothing short of incredible. That same year
(2015), she wowed judges on the TV show America’s Got
Talent dancing with her 26-year-old partner to Pitbull’s
‘Fireball’. Go back a little further and she was a former
WWII French Resistance fighter, a model, actress, film
producer and wine connoisseur.
Needless to say, we adore her.

The wisdom of Tao:
“Nothing is impossible. There is nothing you cannot do.
When you wake up in the morning, know that it’s going
to be the best day of your life.”

“Both teachers and students must know that nothing is
impossible. They need to have a positive outlook on life
and not let negative thoughts enter their mind. We can
accomplish anything.”

“Let the beauty of nature inspire you. A wonderful
sunrise is a promise that it will be a beautiful day. Feel
the oneness in a beautiful smile and the whole world will
react to the good in all people.”

“Age matters not so much in the physical practice of
yoga. It’s the condition of the spine that matters the
most. However, when there has been a great loss of
movement, encouraging acceptance is very important
followed by everyone just doing their best.”
