om mind
how awesome you are.” Placing this journal
next to your bed will be a constant reminder
of what you have achieved and how much
you have to be grateful for. And it might just
help you sleep a little sounder, which also
makes us feel better.
These are just a few ways to rediscover
your best self during your day-to-day life.
However, another vital part of achieving this
is ensuring that you surround yourself with
positive relationships and people.
In relationships
Ensure you make time for the people who
mean the most to you and make you feel
like your best self when you spend time with
them. If you aren’t sure if a relationship is
helping you be your best self then take a
moment to think about how you feel when
you leave them and be aware of how you
allow people to treat you. It’s important to
look within, as all relationships are two-way
streets. McCrimmon told me that we need
to “be aware how you treat other people,
recognise when you are reacting as opposed
to responding and always, always try to be
understanding, ask questions and most of
all listen”. Family, friends or partners, all
of these elements are important and the
key to being the best version of yourself in
any relationship.
Now it’s down to you
Being the best version of yourself can
sometimes feel like the hardest thing in
the world and out of reach. But through
recognising small moments in the day and
taking time to ask yourself questions can be
the difference between being okay and being
your best. I spoke to McCrimmon about how
yoga had helped her to achieve this and
she said it has given her “the recognition
that I am human, these moments will pass
and that I must first and foremost be kind
to myself so I can understand what it really
means to be kind and compassionate to
others. If I’m not understanding towards
myself, I’m never going to have patience
with anyone else”.
There is no magic cream that helps you
be the best version of yourself, it is all about
taking time to feel gratitude for what you
have and sometimes taking time to just be
yourself. As you can see it is all about time –
something many of us believe we have none
to spare.
And just remember: yoga is about finding
what makes you smile, what makes your
body feel good and how to facilitate those
good vibes into daily life, whether it’s on
a bus on the way to work or ordering a
coffee – these are moments that you could
be missing! So take a moment, look around
and be grateful for the world around you...
and you’ll soon start being the best version
of yourself.
