color and painting is a day unfulfi lled.

“With its power and expressive-

ness, color supports the style of my

paintings. I use red in all its shades as

a dominant color, because, for me, it’s

synonymous with the ‘fi re of life’ and

is a signal color. It says, ‘Hello, here

I am’ and draws people into its spell.

“If I only painted in monochrome or

in shades of gray,” she continues, “my

paintings wouldn’t have this power

and luminosity. Th ey’d only be an inad-

equate mirror of the depicted object.”

Sometimes Memmler will change the

color of a fl ower to emphasize its
