FRYOG Om Mag advert 1117.indd 1 21/11/17 16:

Why did you start yoga
My father did yoga when I was a child and I would sit facing him mirroring the poses.
For 30 years I worked as a journalist and magazine editor and, after years of enjoying
strenuous exercise classes, I thought perhaps something calmer might be beneficial.
At first, I was only interested in getting into pretzel poses, but after a while I began
finding relaxation at the end of the class more accessible and enjoyable.
Without realising, yoga had embedded itself deep in my psyche and I wanted to
learn more. That’s why I took the British Wheel of Yoga foundation course, followed
by the teacher training qualification. Not really because I wanted to teach initially, but
because of my thirst for knowledge.

Favourite yoga haunts
Wherever I go in the world (I travel frequently because I enjoy it and my daughter lives
in Australia) I seek out a local yoga class and thoroughly enjoy the variety of styles
and teaching methods.

How has yoga changed your life
The biggest change yoga has given me is non-attachment, which comes from the
kleshas (obstacles to spiritual growth). It has given me the ability to let go: the
realisation that some things are beyond your control and all you can do is your best
in any given situation and accept the outcome.

Best yoga moment
I’ve now been teaching for
12 years and just love it. My
classes are a highlight in my
week. They have given me fun
and friendship, satisfaction and
fulfilment. Within the classes
my students have created an
atmosphere of love, laughter and
mutual respect. A true coming
together of like-minded people.
