which led me to designing a life where I
inspire others to practice yoga through
my writing.
Suffice it to say, I believe that the universe
aligns us with everything each of us needs to
fulfill our purpose.
- It’s time to get crafty
Get out your magazines, photo albums,
glue and markers. Find imagery or words
that represent the experiences, items, and
feelings you wish to attract into your life and
paste them onto a piece of paper or poster
board. In this case, size does not matter.
Just make sure that it is big enough to hold
all your desires.
The images don’t have to be of you doing
the activity or achieving the result. However,
I have had the most success when I get
crafty and post pictures of my face into
experiences that I desire. One year, I pasted
a picture of my face next to my favourite
author holding a copy of my yet-to-be-
finished book. Several months later, that
author was speaking to me at her book
signing and was encouraging me to finish
writing my now soon-to-be-released book.
You can choose words and imagery that
depict the goals in one specific area of
your life or your vision board can be all
encompassing. You could make one vision
board for personal goals and one for career
goals. It’s completely up to you. There are no
hard and fast rules.
The most important thing is to choose
words and imagery that speak to you on an
emotional level. You want your vision board
to be filled with images and sayings that
inspire positive feelings, get you excited, and
make you smile. Utilise the vast expanse
of images that you capture online. I would
love to do a research project to confirm my
personal belief that some of the social sites
are really a vision board of sorts, but that is
a whole other article.
No one else ever has to see your vision
board. Ever, unless you want. Which gets me
to the next step.
- Post your vision board in a place
where you will see it frequently
It is especially important to place your vision
board in a spot where you will see it right
before you go to bed. The images you see
in the hour before you go to sleep are the
ones that replay in your subconscious as
you sleep.
I keep my vision board in my bathroom
above my sink where I can see it while I
brush my teeth. Your dentist will be happy
to know that you spend a few extra minutes
cleaning your pearly whites each morning
as you become absorbed in your vision
board. Starting your day with a quick, visual
reminder will keep it ever present in your
sphere of the day.
- Feel gratitude
As time passes, you’ll begin to see the
desires on your vision board manifest. Make
sure to take time and feel gratitude for each.
Every morning, before I get out of bed, I
routinely list a mental inventory of all the
things I am grateful for, including those desires
that have manifested themselves in my life. - It is a work-in-progress
Just like you, your vision board is not set
in stone. You can always add new desires
to your board as your dreams evolve and
expand.
I like to make a new vision board every
year. I’ve started a tradition in my family of
making vision boards at the beginning of each
year. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bond with
your family as you share the successes and
achievements over the past year and look
forward into the future together.
Take a snapshot of one before making the
next one. You’ll have a visual journal of your
goals, dreams and personal growth. - Take action!
Your vision board is a wonderful place to
start realising your ideal life. However, let’s
be realistic. Your desires are not going to
magically appear while you sit on the couch
watching the latest re-runs.
You must get out there and take
advantage of the resources and
opportunities that the universe gives you.
This is when you release your fears and trust
that, “the universe has your back”.
When your desires are truly aligned with
your life purpose, then you’ll discover it is
very easy to attract the things you wish for.
But, you must act! You must believe that the
answer is already “yes” and that the things
and experiences you desire are already on
their way.
Now, go get crafty and let your vision
board be a catalyst for creating the life you
were born to live!
