The Impact of Habit Building
That is why I am so passionate about Hello Mornings and the
habit of starting your day with God. It is the greatest keystone
habit.
It’s like buttoning the top button on a shirt. If you button
the top button right, everything else lines up. If you button it
wrong, everything else gets out of whack. It doesn’t take much
to be intentional with that top button, but it does take a little
more thought and attention.
Same with our mornings. It doesn’t need to be complicated
or time- consuming— just intentional.
There have been seasons when my morning habit was
praying, “God, I want to want to get up and start my day with
You. Help me.”
That was it. The end. Nada más.
Pretty pathetic, right? I’m not writing this book because it
was easy for me or because I float two inches off the ground
with all my holiness. I stink. I’m a Bible study class dropout.
I’ve started and not finished far too many in- depth Bible stud-
ies. I’m a poster child for low standards. But you have to start
where you are with what you have.
I’ve found that I love writing down scriptures. So my base
habit is to write a few verses from whatever book of the Bible
I’m writing out at the time. Sometimes it’s just two verses, but
