Setting the Stage
17
A thousand things are happening in this one
thing,
Like a thousand fields nourished by a single drop
of rain,
So honey, wrap yourself in promise,
While you wait the morning light.
A thousand things are happening tonight.
What does all this have to do with mornings? Oh, just
everything.
Stories are lived day by day. How we start matters. Our
day- in and day- out choices are the pieces that build the mosaic
of our lives. And while they don’t always seem important or
beautiful up close, when we put them all together and step
back, we can see the masterpiece unfolding.
I love looking back on those hard, early days of mother-
hood when my inadequacy and ignorance pushed me every
morning to the feet of Jesus. Following Him day by day led
me to that redemptive moment in my life. It was that very
morning habit that helped me start the blog I was unqualified
to write, that built a ministry I was unequipped to lead, that
put me on a Compassion trip that “just happened” to be to the
Philippines. God orchestrated it. I simply followed each step.
And you? What is the story He longs to redeem in your
life? What is the open loop that He wants to bring full circle?
The only way to know is to follow Him step by step. How
we start affects how we finish. How we start shapes our jour-
ney and outlines our lives. And who we start with makes all
the difference.
